Such a quick read but this short story leaves you with a lot to think about。

3。5It was short, but it definitely made me feel very uneasy because I could totally picture that ending scenario in my mind。 A story that began all nice in good spirits, ending in this fashion- I wouldn't be surprised if it happened in our modern times。 3。5It was short, but it definitely made me feel very uneasy because I could totally picture that ending scenario in my mind。 A story that began all nice in good spirits, ending in this fashion- I wouldn't be surprised if it happened in our modern times。 。。。more

On the morning of June 27th everyone gathers in the village to participate in a lottery which no one wants to win but are forced to as a part of their old traditions。 The winner of the lottery gets stoned as they had lost their original black box and they had forgotten most of the rituals。

I found this book when I searched for short stories。 It was okay。 I didn't realize what was happening till the end。 I'm glad I read this book as it was suggested。 Overall not bad, just different。 I found this book when I searched for short stories。 It was okay。 I didn't realize what was happening till the end。 I'm glad I read this book as it was suggested。 Overall not bad, just different。 。。。more

4。5 stars“The Lottery” is a short story by Shirley Jackson。 It’s about an annual lottery which takes place in a small American town。 That’s all you should know before starting this book。 I went in totally blind and was extremely surprised, so I’d definitely recommend reading it that way。It’s hard to rate how much I was captivated by the book because it’s only 30 pages。 But these few pages grabbed my attention and I literally flew through the book。The characters are a nice addition but I don’t th 4。5 stars“The Lottery” is a short story by Shirley Jackson。 It’s about an annual lottery which takes place in a small American town。 That’s all you should know before starting this book。 I went in totally blind and was extremely surprised, so I’d definitely recommend reading it that way。It’s hard to rate how much I was captivated by the book because it’s only 30 pages。 But these few pages grabbed my attention and I literally flew through the book。The characters are a nice addition but I don’t think they are the main selling point of this book。 It’s more about the story itself and how it develops。 The writing is appropriate and meaningful。 After reading I did some research and so many small details have great importance and can be interpreted。 I will write down some thoughts in the spoiler section。 In conclusion, this book has every right to be considered a classic and I would recommend it to everybody, since it is such a short but powerful read!(view spoiler)[- the book shows that people have to think, even though some things have been around for a long time you still have to form an opinion on certain things, the Lottery is an old tradition and the people don't question it at all (the old box also shows how old the tradition really is)- I feel like the murder itself doesn't have that big of an impact on the individuals, because everything happens as a group and therefore there is no person responsible alone- even the family members do accept the victim's fate- at the beginning I thought that the kids were playing with the stones but it turns out they are the weapons- at the beginning the narrator tells the reader about a warm summer day with flowers blooming, which does not show any indicators on how the story will be ending (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Shirley Jackson walked so King could run, the setting of polite, small town, 1950s America is my favourite ever setting for horror

I thought this story was really interesting, and had a very dark twist。 After reading it for my school's book club, I initially didn't enjoy it too much。 But, as the story quickly progressed, it became more intriguing。 I really enjoyed the end!

This is basically what's happening now in the US, social media, and many other places, but everybody thinks that they're the good guy and their particular hatred is justified。 This is basically what's happening now in the US, social media, and many other places, but everybody thinks that they're the good guy and their particular hatred is justified。 。。。more

Well-portrayed, but it is a very shocking, tragic story。 Not something I want to think about, or ever read again。

An interesting and well-written story。 By today’s standards it’s very tame and a not a standout plot in the wake of books like the hunger games。 3。5 stars

Well i didn't expect my 50th read book to be like this because the ending was definitely unexpected。 This was the first WTF book i ever read but then i watched some videos explaining the story and now i realise the deep and simple message the author was trying to show and he couldn't deliver it simpler and clearer than what he did。 Well i didn't expect my 50th read book to be like this because the ending was definitely unexpected。 This was the first WTF book i ever read but then i watched some videos explaining the story and now i realise the deep and simple message the author was trying to show and he couldn't deliver it simpler and clearer than what he did。 。。。more

I wish I could read this for the first time again, because, sadly, this doesn't have quite the gut punch the second time。 It's still eery and tense and packs a whallop in just a few pages。 I wish I could read this for the first time again, because, sadly, this doesn't have quite the gut punch the second time。 It's still eery and tense and packs a whallop in just a few pages。 。。。more
